Beyond Molotovs – A Visual Handbook of Anti-Authoritarian Strategies is a publication that brings together more than 50 first-hand accounts of anti-authoritarian movements, activists, artists, and scholars from around the world, focusing on the sensuous and emotional dimension of their strategies.
My contribution to the book documents the symbolic use of tarpaulin sheets which are a distinctive element in the landscape of neglected neighborhoods of urban spaces in India. Usually used by the weaker sections of the society for shelter and domestic purposes, Tarpaulin as a giant installation disrupting the public space proved to be a powerful symbol of anti authoritarianism. The photo essay explores the use of Tarp shed in a unique protest strategy that was used in the Anti CAA NRC protests in India.
